LAW OF PORTS Nº16.246

The Law of Port Reform brought from 1992 the great change: the substantial transformation of the operations in the ports of Uruguay, positioning the country as a cargo centralizing port and regional distribution center. The characteristics of this unique regime on the South American Atlantic coast have allowed the installation of Regional Distribution Centers located at the entrance and exit gates to the region. When we talk about free ports, reference is made to the port customs spaces where special tax and customs regimes govern, including the free movement of goods, without requiring authorization or formal procedures.
